Christmas Show 2018 – The Wizard of Oz – The Musical
Friday 7th December to Sunday 30 December 2018
Shows at various times, every day except Mon 10, Mon 17, Tues 25 December
Following the smash hit show Peter Pan at Blackpool Opera House this year, 2018 will see audiences following the yellow brick road to spend an unforgettable Christmas with Dorothy and her friends in the merry old land of Oz.
X- Factor sensation Holly Tandy will stepping into Dorothy’s iconic ruby slippers in this year’s unforgettable adventure, The Wizard of Oz at Blackpool Opera House. Radio Wave’s Scott Gallagher is the Cowardly Lion.
In 2017 Holly’s strong performances as one of Sharon Osbourne’s girls got her all the way through to the Semi Finals of the X Factor. She was the youngest contestant on the show at just 15 and her performance of Alicia Keys If I Ain’t Got You at the auditions was the start of an incredible journey. This will be Holly’s first musical theatre role and she tells us:
‘I’m over the moon, or should I say rainbow! To be taking my first stage role in such an iconic musical at such an iconic venue. I can’t wait to get on stage!’
This highly-acclaimed adaptation from The Royal Shakespeare Company is produced by the award-winning Selladoor Family, (producers of Madagascar, Peter Pan, Seussical) and sees the return of Radio Wave favourite Scott Gallagher as the Cowardly Lion, back by popular demand following his celebrated performance in last years musical adventure at the Opera House – Peter Pan. The Wizard of Oz features a timeless and instantly recognisable score, with classics such as We’re Off To See The Wizard, Ding Dong The Witch Is Dead!, If I Only Had A Brain and Over The Rainbow.
When a tornado whisks away a young Kansas farm girl, Dorothy, and her dog, Toto, to the merry old land of Oz, they learn that the only way to get back home is to ask for help from a great and powerful Wizard. Whilst on their quest they stumble across a Scarecrow – who is need of a brain, a Tin Man – who so desperately wants a heart, and a Lion – who could really do with some courage. Together they begin a magical journey as they head off to see the Wizard, the wonderful Wizard of Oz.

The special anniversary tour opens at the Opera House Blackpool for one week only from 5 – 9 March 2019.
Winner of two Tony Awards and the 2010 Grammy Award winner for Best Musical Show Album, American Idiot is the story of three boyhood friends, each searching for meaning in a post 9/11 world. A Green Revolution for the Winter Gardens
A new programme launched in January 2018 by the Winter Gardens Blackpool will see trees planted across Blackpool’s parks and public spaces as part of a drive to offset the venues carbon footprint.
With help from Radio Wave’s breakfast team, Scott and Hayley, the first tree, an oak, planted to launch the scheme sits proudly in Stanley Park.
The scheme which forms part of a wider community programme developed by the Blackpool Winter Gardens could see up to 20 trees donated each year.
The trees will be sited by the council’s community and environmental department and donated as part a drive to offset the print including posters, brochures and leaflets which are used by the venue in the promotion of its many events. The initiative forms part of a community and environmental programme aimed at ensuring the venue remains at the heart of the community.
The tree donation initiative forms part of a green revolution taking place at the Victorian venue which now includes the recycling of advertising banners into reusable shopping bags, and a phased withdrawal of single-use plastics. This is accompanied by significant investment in new and efficient systems at the venue.
