When booking your holiday, look out for the ‘Blackpool Approved’ scheme and this logo, above. Be sure that it’s legal, clean and safe and a properly-run business.
Blackpool Approved – Visitor Accommodation Scheme
The ‘Blackpool Approved’ scheme is accredited by VisitEngland. It ensures that a property is
- “legal, safe and clean”,
- meets all requirements with regard to health and safety,
- and demonstrates good customer practice.
It doesn’t give an indication of a property’s quality or facilities. But it does provide reassurance that your choice of accommodation is correctly registered. And that it’s a properly-run business.

StayBlackpool is the independent association for Blackpool hotels and guest houses.
And with something for all tastes and budgets, choosing one of these accredited properties ensures that the accommodation you choose is exactly what you expect.
Be assured that StayBlackpool accommodation is clean, safe and legal. All members are rated with Visit Britain, the AA or Blackpool Approved schemes.
Information for Accommodation Providers
From an accommodation provider’s perspective, the scheme allows you to become part of a recognised standard. The cost and intrusion is less, requiring only a short visit from a trained assessor.
Introduced in 2015, it means that your business can appear in a designated “entry level” section on official tourism websites. It can also take part in marketing campaigns and the annual Destination Guide.
Until now, websites like Visit Fylde Coast, StayBlackpool, VisitBlackpool, Visit Lancashire and such like have only included star-rated accommodation.
How to get Blackpool Approved Accreditation
StayBlackpool operates the scheme on behalf of VisitBlackpool. The hotel association only represents nationally accredited accommodation businesses in Blackpool. It has its own, local, VisitEngland approved assessors.
Assessments/visits are carried out annually. Assessors also check out providers websites on a regular basis. This makes sure that guests aren’t being misled. Accreditation in the Blackpool Approved scheme costs about a third of the full national schemes.
Accreditation for All
Star rating standards, awarded to properties approved by VisitEngland and the AA, are still important. They give the visitor a clear indication of the quality to expect.
The Blackpool Approved Visitor Accommodation Scheme is a good step for hoteliers who aren’t already accredited. The entry level scheme gives an assurance to visitors that the accommodation they’re considering is decent. That it’s a nationally accredited business, or at least has entry level accreditation to say it’s safe, clean and legally compliant.
It’s a big step towards strengthening the continuously improving accommodation offer here in Blackpool.
