Turtle Bay Blackpool Promenade

Turtle Bay

Here’s something very different from traditional seaside fayre! Turtle Bay is a Caribbean restaurant and bar at Blackpool promenade with great food and a warm atmosphere. Visit Fylde Coast visited in July 2024.

Turtle Bay

The Blackpool branch of Turtle Bay opened on Friday 30 June 2023 so had just celebrated its first anniversary when we visited. Their aim is to ‘recreate the spirit and magic of the Caribbean’. With bright and funky interior design, cool music and a warm vibe that’s just what it does.

  • Find it at – Unit 1 Promenade, Market Street, Blackpool FY1 1ET
  • Telephone  01253 272580 – please mention you saw it on Visit Fylde Coast!
  • Opening hours vary, open seven days a week. Weekends generally 10am-midnight. Weekdays generally 12noon – 10pm
  • Please check before travelling

Turtle Bay occupies the corner plot of Foreshaw’s Hotel on the promenade at Talbot Square, opposite North Pier. (What used to be The Clifton Hotel). It’s one of a chain with branches all over the UK. For a great view in the window seats, beat to book a table in advance!

My Choice

I do enjoy different, spicy food but I’m not keen on overly hot food that blows your brains out! So I chose the Trini Curry Prawn and rice, with dumplings as a side. Described as a milder curry with similar heat to a Korma it still has quite a kick! The dumplings are delicious – not like traditional dumplings served with stew but deep fried and a slightly sweet taste. Piping hot with a dressing of pickled cabbage it’s one to pick!

It’s the first time I’ve eaten Caribbean so I decided to try the Buddha Bowl to go with it. A delightful bowl of mixed warm and cold foods arrived – including all kinds of flavours. Grilled mushrooms and hot rice, pineapple, melon, pickled cabbage and salad – topped with salmon. Beautifully fresh and really tasty.

Might s well be hung for a lamb as a sheep, so I also opted for a dessert! There’s a selection of ice cream and run-of-the-mill sweets but I’m keeping true to the theme. Rum Plantains hit the mark – sweet and so, so tasty – served with vegan ice cream. Plantains are, of course, part of the banana family. These are cooked in caramelised sugar with a generous helping of rum. Perfect way to end a meal.

All of this was washed down with a couple of Guava Punch mocktails – including watermelon, apple and lime.

Eat and Drink

There’s a great menu to choose from with lots of different options, serving up fresh Caribbean-inspired flavours. Enjoy delicious BBQ flavours, iconic smoky jerk pit, tangy curries and fresh summer salads. Don’t forget their famous Bottomless Brunch!

Enjoy Happy Hour until 6.30 and after 9pm, with 2-4-1 cocktails (same drink at the same time). Tropical cocktails are the perfect way to enjoy (or imagine) the sun!

Plus on the first Saturday of every month live music with a live reggae band. Free entry – from 9.30-11.30pm

Overall

I’ve gone way out of my comfort zone in creating Friday Food Review Vlogs for you and probably wouldn’t have tried this otherwise. But I’m glad I did.

All of the food I had was delicious, fresh, hot and really tasty – with different and complimentary tastes. Portion sizes are quite generous – both the curry and the Buddha bowl are ample sized meals. Together, this combination of food is perfect for two to share.

Would I go back again? Yes, definitely! Watch the video above for the full review.

(I’ve still got no idea why people go mad for avocado 🤮)
