Harry Ramsden’s in Blackpool
You might remember one of Harry Ramsden’s restaurants at 60-63 Promenade, opened on 19 September 1990. Neil Kinnock, then leader of the Labour Party did the honours. Currently vacant as of 2024, the premises were the Viva Vegas Diner and Grill for some years.
In July 2016 it closed, moving to the Tower buildings. The Tower Lounge had previously closed on 9 November 2014 and a full fit out followed before Harry Ramsden’s moved in. The owners of Harry Ramsden’s invested £2.1m with Blackpool Council contributing £0.4m toward building works. Mayor of Blackpool Cllr Kath Rowson officially opened the new store at a VIP event on Monday 25 July 2016.
The famous chain was founded by restaurant entrepreneur Harry Ramsden in Guiseley, West Yorkshire in 1928.
Overall
For a special treat it’s worth a visit to this famous fish and chip chain. Reviews online vary widely from wonderful to awful so we didn’t know what to expect. However, the food was piping hot and fresh and didn’t leave any greasy aftertaste.
However, it’s definitely more expensive than most other fish and chip shops – more the price paid for restaurant food. We enjoyed it though and it certainly enters the Visit Fylde Coast list of go-to places to eat in Blackpool.
