Along with its neighbours on this side of Victoria Street, Bella Italia Blackpool is part of the Houndshill Shopping Centre footprint. Now the only one in Blackpool, a second restaurant at Church Street closed in 2020 with the pandemic. It’s in a really handy place for anyone visiting nearby theatres and bars.

The Bella Italia Chain
We’ve walked past Bella Italia hundreds of times but never been inside and didn’t know anything about it prior to our visit! It’s part of the Big Table Group Ltd which also owns Cafe Rouge, Frankie & Benny’s and Las Iguanas. It was 1990 when Michael Guthrie, former Chairman of Mecca Group, began acquiring brands and restaurants, including many from the Rank Organisation. The first Bella Italia opened in December 2002 in Leeds.
Bella Italia Blackpool
Inside it’s a warm and cosy atmosphere with lots of natural wood and a friendly vibe. There’s a well stocked, licensed bar and plenty of dining space in the ground floor restaurant. Sit and watch the world go by through the floor-to-ceiling glass windows.
Outdoor seating is also available and the overhang which runs along Victoria Street provides shelter from the drizzle – or the occasional burning sun!

Disabled Access
There’s level access at the front of the store and dining space on the same level, making it accessible for easy access. However, there are a couple of steps down to the main bar area. There is a customer toilet but it isn’t accessible.
Overall
The menu offers a wide range of traditional Italian pastas and pizzas plus plenty of other alternatives.
The day I visited I opted for something different – not the usual pasta dish that you might expect in an Italian restaurant. I ordered oven roasted fillet of sea bass with oregano and garlic roasted new potatoes, green beans, red onion and sweet red peppers. Beautifully cooked and very fresh it was a very enjoyable lunch.
