Young Farmers Weekend

Blackpool Young Farmers Weekend

It’s one of the most notorious events of the year! Blackpool’s Young Farmers Weekend is renowned for high jinx and high spirits when 8000 of them arrive for a great time at their DIY AGM!

Blackpool Young Farmers Weekend

The National Federation of Young Farmers’ Clubs (NFYFC) organised their AGM for 50+ years to take place alternately in Blackpool and the South West.

After cancellation of the NFYFC AGM in 2018, one young farmer decided that the show should go on. John Houseman, from a mixed livestock farm in North Yorks, initially created an unofficial Facebook event in 2019. Over the years it’s grown to become the DIY AGM.

The aim of the all new Young Farmers Community is to uphold the reputation of young farmers, raise money for charities and provide an unrivalled social occasion for young farmers to let off steam.

This year Blackpool Young Farmers Weekend is a three night experience across multiple venues. Including the Winter Gardens, Walkabout, Yates and Popworld. With well-known DJs & Acts 🍹 Exclusive drinks deals 🏆 VIP areas & free giveaways 🤠 Rodeo Bulls. In 2024, Farmers Guardian hosted its first live conference at the DIY AGM, with inspirational speakers and farming influencers.

Blackpool’s Young Farmers Weekend is a chance for people from all over the country to get together and let off steam. They’re renowned for entertaining escapades, high spirits and alcohol consumption!

Farming is an isolated profession with long hours and little time away so this is a welcome break. At the end of the day, without farmers we’d all be very hungry as there wouldn’t be anything anywhere for anyone to eat. They don’t come to Blackpool to cause trouble – but to have fun and let off steam. With a packed yearly calendar it’s awkward fitting a get-together in. The end of lambing and calving season makes the early May Bank Holiday an ideal time.

It also brings revenue into the town, estimated to contribute around £4 million to the local economy, with spending on accommodation, food, and entertainment. One takeaway shop reputedly took £60,000 in pizzas and kebabs during the weekend in 2024! Alongside that it also raises money for charity with an additional £50,000 raised over the years.
