Get ready for lift off! There’s a New Launch Pad coming soon at Pleasure Beach with a transformation for the popular Ice Blast ride.

New Launch Pad at Pleasure Beach!

Ice Blast is a popular 210 feet tall shot tower, designed to catapult you vertically upwards at 80mph. After being closed during the 2024 season, December 2024 came along with the announcement of what’s coming next.

Ice Blast Ride at Blackpool Pleasure Beach

With a new theme and new branding, the ride reopens in 2025 as ‘Launch Pad’. And the brand new pressure cylinder will thrust riders skywards like never before!

It might not sound much in writing, but will make a huge difference in terms of the ride experience. Expect to feel your stomach drop to the floor with the increased force – and experience moments of weightlessness as you shoot off into the sky!

Launch Pad is expected to be open on Saturday 2 March when the 2025 season begins at Pleasure Beach Resort.

Ice Blast over the Years

It was 1997 when it opened at Blackpool Pleasure Beach as the first tower ride in the UK. Then called PlayStation: The Ride and sponsored by Sony, with boyband Boyzone performing the opening honours. The band, with frontman Ronan Keating, were first to ride it. Along with 94-year-old Doris Thompson, the late grandmother of current CEO, Amanda Thompson.

With the year 2000 marking the start of a new millennium and Tango now sponsoring the ride, it was renamed Ice Blast. And that’s how it operated until the end of the 2023 season.

With work taking place throughout 2024, the reimagined ride will be ready to open in 2025. It’s part of the constant evolution of the ride offering at Pleasure Beach Resort who say they will have “some exciting announcements in the future”.
