Meet the King in Blackpool

Meet the King in Blackpool

Did you know you can meet the King in Blackpool? He’s a firm favourite at Madame Tussauds on Central Promenade! But just occasionally he goes on tour…

King Charles Launches Blackpool Tower Eye’s Summer Garden in the Sky!

On a beautiful bright morning of 26 July 2023, the world-famous Blackpool Tower hosted a very special visitor! The King took time out from his Royal duties at Madame Tussauds, visiting The Tower Top to launch the UK’s highest summer of smiles garden!

More than 50,000 colourful blooms create the perfect selfie-spots, 380-feet in the sky. It’s a place which always brings smiles to faces – whatever the weather is doing outside.

The garden changes with each season and bright yellow sunflowers are currently blooming. So who better to launch the summer of smiles garden than “The King” himself!

Aaron Edgar is Operations Manager at The Blackpool Tower. He said: “The top of Blackpool Tower really is looking absolutely stunning. You just can’t fail to smile when you see it. Combined with the stunning views, the floral displays complete these fabulous vistas!

“Obviously it would have been wonderful to have the real King Charles here to launch our summer garden of smiles. Who knows, let’s hope he may pay us a visit very soon!

“But in the meantime, his wax version from our neighbours Madame Tussauds is superb. So we were delighted to have the amazing wax version of The King here meanwhile.

“The King” is now firmly back in his Royal Residence at his usual home at Madame Tussauds on Blackpool’s promenade. Anyone who missed His Majesty at the Tower Top is guaranteed to see him there and even grab a selfie.

When we met HRH King Charles

Here at Visit Fylde Coast we were more than a bit thrilled to receive an invitation to meet King Charles. I must admit I was less thrilled at the prospect of going up the Tower… Thankfully the day dawned bright and sunny for the 8.30am photoshoot and I survived the lift to 380 feet! And wow, what a view when those lift doors open – especially with HRH himself standing on the Skywalk!

The waxwork is astonishingly lifelike and it’s amazing to get so close and personal because it’s something you’d never be allowed to do in real life. Today’s waxworks capture the likeness so incredibly well and copy literally every detail. If you’ve never seen them it’s well worth paying a visit. Especially as you can get so close to them, touch them and take all your selfies.

Changing Seasons

The garden has been designed and created by Preston-based Margaret Mason Florist. It includes a range of artificial botanical floral arrangements, giving you the chance to soak up the stunning views across the Fylde coast.

As the weather turns cooler in September, the garden will become an autumnal wonderland of crisp golden leaves and pumpkins.

While enjoying the Tower Top Garden, if you’re brave enough you’ll have the chance to experience the famous Skywalk. A five centimetre-thick glass viewing platform, offering a unique view of the Blackpool promenade directly below.
